We are pleased to announce we have secured a small pot of funding through the Regional Integrated Fund for Dementia Small Grant Scheme 2025–26 to pilot a Dementia Hub at the Calfaria Wellbeing and Wellness Hub in Treorchy.

The pilot will run before the end of March 2026 and will replicate MHM Wales’ established dementia hub model currently operating in Bridgend. This pilot will provide structured, dementia-friendly community sessions designed to reduce loneliness and isolation, promote wellbeing, and support people living with dementia and their unpaid carers to maintain independence.

The sessions will offer:

  • Social connection in a safe, welcoming environment
  • Light structured wellbeing activities
  • Creative and reminiscence-based engagement
  • Peer support opportunities for carers
  • Information and signposting to local services

The Dementia Hub will be held at our Calfaria Wellbeing and Wellness Hub, Old Calfaria Surgery, 6 Regent Street, Treorchy, CF42 6PR (what3words: galaxy.salads.stored), which provides a central and accessible community space for the pilot.

Richard Jones CEO at Mental Health Matters Wales, said:

“We know from our engagement with local partners and families that there is clear demand for accessible dementia support in Treorchy. This pilot allows us to test local need, build momentum and gather evidence to support longer-term provision within the community.”

Mental Health Matters Wales would like to sincerely thank the Regional Integrated Fund for Dementia partnership, delivered locally through Interlink RCT, VAMT and BAVO, for their support in enabling this pilot. This funding allows community organisations to respond directly to identified local need and strengthen preventative, person-centred provision.

The organisation already has a Dementia Singalong session this Saturday the 14th of February 2026, helping to build early engagement as the pilot begins.

The project forms part of MHM Wales’ wider commitment to strengthening dementia pathways across the communities it serves, working alongside partners to ensure local, person-centred and preventative support is available close to home.

Further details on confirmed session days and times will be published shortly.
