We currently provide the following services:
Wellbeing Hubs (Bridgend Borough) The Wellbeing Hubs offer safe social spaces across Bridgend Borough (Ogmore Vale, Maesteg, Porthcawl, Bridgend), providing mental health-promoting activities and peer support for adults aged 18+. The hubs provide a range of local, informal sessions, such as creative groups and wellbeing workshops and encourage volunteer involvement to run these hubs. The hubs are part of MHM Wales’s broader wellbeing services, offering guidance, connection, and practical support alongside peer-led and therapeutic activities
Wellbeing Retreat (Bridgend Borough) The Wellbeing Retreat out-of-hours service, open between 5pm and 10pm Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday offers support for people experiencing low-level mental health or social distress. It provides a safe, non-clinical space to ease challenges such as bereavement, trauma, or relationship breakdown. Access is referral-only, and transport is available to remove barriers.
Therapeutic Support - Therapeutic support enhances the well-being of patients with dementia and other cognitive impairments in hospital setting in Cardiff. The team delivers person-centred activities such as reminiscence sessions, walks, bedside befriending, and pampering services like hair washing and styling. These interventions are designed to reduce confusion and anxiety in hospital settings, promote social interaction, and maintain a sense of identity and purpose.
Dementia Hubs (Bridgend Borough) The Dementia Hubs, provides information, support, and signposting for people with dementia, their carers, and families. Hosting weekly activities, coffee mornings, art groups, walks, and music sessions, across Bridgend and nearby communities to reduce isolation and encourage peer support.
SHARE - Self Harm Awareness Recovery Education Peer support group, SHARE provides a safe, non-judgmental space for individuals to discuss self-harm openly. The group focuses on exploring alternative coping strategies and techniques to reduce reliance on self-harm (no formal diagnoses needed) Share operates a face-to-face service in Bridgend Borough and an online service.
Wellbeing Group - Peer support group for people experiencing anxiety or depression.
Talking Connections - Talking Connections is a low-cost counselling service for individuals aged 18 and over residing in the Bridgend Borough or across Wales online. The service offers confidential, short-term therapy sessions to help clients address a variety of mental health and emotional issues, including anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, and relationship difficulties.Counselling is available through face-to-face, telephone, or video sessions, with a fee of £10 per weekly session which contributes to counsellers clinical supervision. Currently, there is a waiting list of approximately 6 –8 weeks.
Training - We offers a comprehensive suite of training courses aimed at enhancing mental health awareness and support skills. Traning include accredited programs such as Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Breakaway (personal safety), as well as workshops on topics like anxiety and depression, self-harm, and emotional intelligence.These courses are designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and practical skills needed to recognise mental health challenges and provide appropriate support. Training sessions are facilitated by qualified instructors and are available to companies and the public. Information - Our Information Officer provides information on mental and emotional health issues, details about national and local mental health services, and access to directories of adult mental health resources. These services are delivered across various settings, including Wellbeing Hubs, Dementia Hubs, local hospitals, schools, colleges, universities, and community events to promote available support options and facilitate connections between service providers and those in need in the Bridgend Borough. Community Advocacy Service (CAS) - CAS provides free, person-centred advocacy support to all adults across Bridgend, Swansea, and Neath Port Talbot. The service helps people have their voices heard, exercise their rights, and access fair treatment, regardless of their circumstances. CAS offers one-to-one advocacy, aiming to fill the gaps left by statutory services and ensures individuals who would otherwise be excluded can receive vital support.
Parent Peer Advocacy & Support Service (PPASS) - offers independent advocacy and peer support for parents involved in child protection cases, operating separately from Social Services. The service is available to parents living within the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea local authority areas. PPASS’s advocates and support workers, who have personal experience with child protection systems assist parents in understanding decisions, expressing their perspectives, attending meetings (like conferences or hearings), and making complaints as needed.
Independent Professional Advocacy (IPA) - The IPA service supports adults (18+)in ridgend, Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Cardiff and the vale of Glamorgan. who are engaged with Social Services and lack someone appropriate to advocate for them during assessments, care planning, reviews, or safeguarding. The IPA advocates helps individuals understand how social services operate, clarifies their options and rights, assists with communication with professionals, and ensures their voices are heard.
Paid Relative Persons Representative (PRPR) - When individuals under the Mental Capacity Act (DoLS) lack suitable friends or family, MHM Wales can provide a qualified advocate, known as a PRPR, to represent their interests. The PRPR regularly visits the person, helps them understand DoLS authorisations, ensures conditions are met, supports rights and reviews/challenges authorisations, and remains independent of care providers, the NHS and Local Authorities. This service is available to Local Auhtorities, and the NHS on a "spot purchase" or contract basis.
Litigation Friend - The Litigation Friend service represent individuals in Court of Protection proceedings, typically via referrals from local authorities or health boards. Advocates work closely with clients to understand their wishes, complete required court forms, liaise with legal representatives, and attend hearings to ensure the client’s voice is heard. This service is available to Local Auhtorities, and the NHS on a "spot purchase" basis.
Nearest Relative - The Nearest Relative role is an important safeguard for people who are affected by the Mental Health Act. This service is available to Local Auhtorities, and the NHS on a "spot purchase" basis.
Professional Independent Advocacy (PIA) - We provide a PIA service designed to support individuals where there is no advocacy service available, or who may not qualify for statutory advocacy but still require assistance. This service is available through a "spot purchase" model, allowing local authorities, health boards, or individuals to commission advocacy support as needed. Advocates assist clients in understanding their rights, expressing their views, and making informed decisions, particularly during times of significant change or crisis. The PIA service is flexible and can be tailored to individual needs, providing both instructed and non-instructed advocacy support.
Lobbying and Campaigning - Raising awareness to remove the stigma and discrimation.
